BlackBoard IM allows members of your course to download and use a voice chat client. For the best results, you'll want each user to be able to use a headset and a microphone with their computer. At minimum users should have the ability to hear sound and a microphone, over a reasonably fast network. System requirements may be found here. Note: BlackBoard IM is on a separate client server that must be downloaded. By clicking on the BlackBoard link, users will be prompted to created an account before download begins. How to set up BlackBoard IM:
Option One: Making them visible.
Make the Tools link your Course Menu (on the left side of your screen) is visible (not hidden) to users.
Within the Tools window, make sure that BlackBoard IM is also not hidden.
Option Two: Creating a Direct link to BlackBoard IM on the content page.
Select the "Content" from the left hand menu.
Select the "Tools" tab.
Select "More Tools."
Select BlackBoard IM.
After selecting BlackBoard IM, you can:
Add text, such as a description.
Choose its availability.
Track how many people visit the link.
After any edits you choose to make, click on the "Submit" button.
How to begin a voice chat:
Open the BlackBoard IM client.
Right click on the user that you wish to chat with.
Select "Chat" to message with the user one-on-one.
Select "Group Chat" to add them to a group chat room.
You can also send the Group Chat to the entire course.
